Terminology

Hydraulics – the science of the laws of equilibrium and motion of liquids, as well as the ways to apply these laws to solving practical problems.

Hydrosystem – a set of generating, control and actuating devices, connecting elements and instrumentation that use and convert the kinetic and/or potential energy of the fluid to provide the function or functions of the machine or structure in whose construction this hydraulic system is incorporated.

Hydraulic drive is a hydraulic system or only its executive part that converts the kinetic and/or potential energy of a fluid into mechanical energy of a mobile unit of a machine or structure.

Hydraulic unit is a complete generating unit of the hydraulic system, which necessarily contains a hydraulic tank, one or more pumps, a set of hydraulic equipment, filters, electrical equipment and elements of hydraulic installation.

Hydrostation is a complete generating unit of the hydraulic system, which necessarily contains a hydraulic tank, as a rule, one pump and a smaller set of hydraulic equipment, filters, electrical equipment and water-assembly elements, in comparison with the hydro-aggregate.

Pumping unit is a generating unit of a hydraulic system without hydraulic tank, with one drive motor and a minimum set of hydraulic equipment, filters and water-assembly elements. The pumping unit may be part of a hydroelectric unit or a hydro plant.

Hydraulic motor is an actuating element of the hydraulic system, which converts the kinetic and/or potential energy of the fluid into mechanical energy of the mobile unit of the machine or structure. There are the following types of hydraulic motors:

– Hydraulic motor of translational motion – hydraulic cylinder,

– hydraulic motor of rotary motion – hydraulic motor,

– hydrodrive of incomplete rotational motion – hydro-quadrant.

Hydraulic pump is a generating element of the hydraulic system that converts the mechanical energy of the external propulsor into the kinetic and/or potential energy of the fluid.

Hydraulic equipment is a set of hydraulic system elements that allow to regulate, limit and control the physical parameters of the working fluid used in the hydraulic system, necessary for its normal operation (pressure, flow rate, flow rate and direction, temperature, level, purity).

The hydraulic accumulator is an element of the hydraulic system, which serves for accumulation and subsequent generation of potential energy and volume of the working fluid.

Hydraulic press is a machine designed to compress and/or deform various materials and parts, the main movement in which is carried out by means of a hydraulic drive.

Hydraulic installation is a set of connecting hydraulic lines and parts that serve to supply the working fluid to all elements of the hydraulic system.

Hydraulic fittings are a set of parts and components designed to connect hydraulic lines (pipes and hoses) to the elements and blocks of the hydraulic system.
